舍尔巴茨基(Th.Stcherbatsky)，20世纪上半叶西方佛教学界最著名的俄罗斯学者，是西方佛学彼得堡学派的巨擘。舍氏1866年生在波兰。他少年时代即已掌握英、法、德语；青年时代更熟稔希腊语、拉丁语、希伯来语等；他精通梵文、藏文，了解汉文、日文，足可称为不世出的学者。其学术领域包括印度诗学、古代戏剧、碑铭学、藏学、佛教哲学等。他曾访过中东，到过波斯，在印度和蒙古都居住过，曾拜见过第十三世达赖。他对“第二佛陀”世亲的《俱舍论》、法称的《正理滴论》有着深湛的研究和独到的心解。《大乘佛学》《小乘佛学》和《佛教逻辑》只是他的部分代表作。他是俄国科学院东方学部通讯院士，又是欧洲三个东方学研究团体——英国亚洲学会、巴黎亚洲学会和柏林东方学会——的名誉会员。1942年舍氏逝于前苏联。
